Maria Luciana Gonzalez, 83, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. She was born on Saturday, November 02, 1035 in General Teran, N.L., Mexico to Guadalupe Ocanas and Tomasa Perez Ocanas. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Benito G. Gonzalez, sons; Fedencio Gonzalez, Oscar Gonzalez, Benito Gonzales and Fidencio Gonzalez, daughter; Maria Del Rosario Gonzalez, brothers; Federico Ocanas, Ramiro Ocanas, Manuel Ocanas and Jesus Ocanas, sisters; Simona Ocanas, Antonia Ocanas, and Otilia Ocanas.
Maria is survived by her children; Jesus O. Gonzalez, Irma (Alfonso) Villegas, Ester Villanueva, Criselda (Jorge) Villanueva, Elisa Davila, Guadalupe (Saul) Martinez, Margarita Gonzalez, Elena (Ernesto) Gomez, Rosie (Nick) Finstad, and Herlinda (Juan) Marquez, sisters; Guillermina and Manuela Ocanas, 36 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
She lived in Edinburg most of her life and was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, and taking care of her plants, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very strong and loving woman who always provided for her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family received friends on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM with a Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Carlos. Catholic burial will follow to Val Verde Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Donna. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Alfonso Villegas, Jr., Adrian Villegas, Alfonso Villegas, III, Jonathan Davila, Santana Gomez, and David Garcia. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
