Isabel "Chavelita" Rivera, 90, entered eternal rest on Friday, July 6, 2018 at her residence in Edinburg. She was born on Wednesday, April 4, 1928 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Roman Gamez and Rosa Lopez. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Genaro "Jerry" Rivera, son; Mario Rivera, daughter; Rosa Maria (Agustin) Salinas, son-in-law; Antonio Rojas, grandsons; Jesse Rivera, Fernando Rivera and Ruben Xavier Trevino.
Left to cherish her memories are her children; Celia (Noe) Trevino, Elijio (Maria Isabel) Rivera, Mina Rojas, Jerry (Janie) Rivera and Leticia (Juan Enrique) Mendez.
Chavelita worked at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in McAllen for 25 years until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, playing bingo, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Her family will receive friends today, Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her grandchildren; Orlando Rivera, Edwardo Javier Rivera, Ruben Ricardo Trevino, Genaro Rivera, Alejandro Trevino and Alejandro Rojas. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
