Isabel “Chavelita” O. Gonzalez, 102, entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at her home in Edinburg, Texas. Isabel was born on a Wednesday, March 24, 1920 in Cuidad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Donato Ornelas and Lina Rios Hernandez-Ornelas. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Raul Gonzalez, Sr, sons; Roberto Gonzalez, Raul Gonzalez, Jr, Abram Gonzalez, Xavier Gonzalez and Eladio Torres, daughters; Alicia Espinoza, Delia Aguilar, Ramona Medina and Ana Maria Vento as well as 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
Isabel is survived by her children; Gabriela Hendricks and Emma (Arnulfo) Gonzalez, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Isabel or “Chavelita” as she was affectionately known lived a life where she was a faithfully devoted Catholic and had a strong sense of faith instilled in her at a very young age. In 1966, she was a member of Grupo Guadalupanas at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas. In 1968, she began working for Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas, under Fr. Clemente and became known for a being a pioneer and a pillar of faith for Holy Family Catholic Church, bringing the Grupo Guadalupanas to Holy Family Catholic Church. She was part of the church choir and served as a Eucharist Minister. Chavelita showed her love for the Lord in many ways but she especially loved her family and spending time with all of them. Isabel was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Daughter and she will be deeply missed by family and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed by the Guadalupanas at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1302 East Champion Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road, Edinburg, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Orlando Perez, Andres Gonzalez, Johnny Torres, Raul Perez, Arnulfo Gonzalez & Ronnie Torres, Jr. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and Staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
