Gertrudis R. Fernandez, 90, entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at her residence in Edinburg. She was born on a Monday, Jiuly 4, 1932 in Linn-San Manuel, Texas to Domingo Rodriguez and Gertrudis Rodriguez. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Israel Fernandez, siblings; Gregorio Rodriguez, Francisca Rodriguez, Lorenzo G. Rodriguez, Juliana Rodriguez, Nasaria Ochoa, Domingo Rodriguez, Pedro Rodriguez, Agripin Rodriguez, Gilberto Rodriguez, Lorenzo G. Rodriguez, Domingo Rodriguez and Gregorio Rodriguez, Jr.
Gertrudis is survived by her children; Delma (Diego) Cavazos, Dina (Ruben) Lopez and Domingo "Sonny" (Maria Estela) Fernandez, Sr., 15 - grandchildren, 24 - great grandchildren, 2 - great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed playing bingo, chalupa and scratching off lottery tickets. Her greatest joy was cooking for her family and anyone who went to visit her. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow to El Cibolo Cemetery in Edinburg, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Joshua Fernandez, Domingo "Sonny" Fernandez, Jr., Israel A. Tijerina, Adan R. Avila, Joe D' Fernandez, Alexander Cavazos and Caleb Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be: Robyn R. Lopez and Angel De La Fuente. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
