Eliberto “Beto” Lopez, 75, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on Thursday, August 19, 1943 in Edinburg, Texas to Arturo Lopez and Maria Diamantina Salinas Lopez. He is preceded in death by his father and brother; Arturo Lopez, Jr.
Beto is survived by his wife of 26 years; Maria Elizabeth Colvin Lopez, mother; Tina Lopez, precious daughters; Lisa (Frank) Cherry and Evonne Lorrie (Jubal) Garcia, grandchildren; Alyssa Cherry, Jonathan (Cassandra) Cherry, Eric Ozuna and Jaclynne Ozuna, great-granchildren; Raylee Pearson, Brylee Pearson and Hazel Cherry, brothers; Pedro (Maricela) Lopez, Quirino “Kenny” (Sylvina) Lopez and Ruben Lopez, sister; Sylvia “Babe” (Manuel) Vega, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Beto lived in Edinburg all of his life and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1962. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked for TIDE Products and Wilbur-Ellis Fertilizer Supplier for 42 years until his retirement. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar and even was part of a band called “The Hunters”. He enjoyed playing pool, listening to all kinds of music, especially oldies and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The Lopez family will receive friends today, Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 12:30 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial with Military honors will follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road in Mission. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Frank Cherry, Jonathan Cherry, Jubal Garcia, Eric Ozuna, Alyssa Cherry and Jaclynne Ozuna. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
