Edna Adelina (De la Garza) Garza, Devoted Mother, Loyal Friend and Lifelong Public Servant

Edinburg, TX - Edna Adelina (De la Garza) Garza, a pillar of the Edinburg community, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024. She was born in Edinburg, Texas on Thursday, August 7, 1947 to Jose Jesus De la Garza and Salome Alvarez De la Garza. She is predeceased in death by her parents and beloved husband, Rodolfo Eloy Garza.

Edna embodied kindness and care. She had a fulfilling career dedicated to service. Her journey began as a waitress at the Highway Grill where she had an opportunity to work with her father, who was a cook. Upon graduating from Edinburg High School, Edna served her community as a Communications Dispatcher for both the Edinburg Police Department and later Pan American University now University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley - Traffic and Security Department. Her devotion to community continued as she assisted with educating Migrant Farm workers on personal finance while working at Amigo's Unidos Credit Union, as a teller.

However, her true passion lay in nurturing and supporting children in their learning. Edna dedicated 37 years to the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District where she assisted with educating students at De la Vina Elementary before her retirement. She began as a substitute teacher, then transitioned to parent liaison, and paraprofessional. Her nurturing spirit touched countless children throughout her years with the school district.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Edna was a devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter. She selflessly provided for her family, including her parents and husband until their passing. Her legacy lives on in her children, Ricardo E. (Melinda) Garza and Patricia L. (Adan) Gonzalez, grandchildren, Randall C. (Mckeena) Garza, Eric M. Garza, Joe D. Fernandez, Isaac Becerra, six other grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.

The Garza Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg with Fr. Rene officiating. A graveside service of inurnment will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road in Mission, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Ricardo E. Garza, Adan Gonzalez, Randall C. Garza, Joe D. Fernandez, Jose Angel De la Garza and Eric Garza.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia and staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg, Texas.
