Viola Carmen Martinez

Viola Carmen Martinez, 78, entered eternal rest on August 14, 2014 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. She was born on February 15, 1936 to Jose Dolores Garza and Rosa Hinojosa Garza in Linn, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Carlos Garza; sister, Osbelia Zuniga, and brother-in-laws, Nicholas Zuniga and Pedro Zuniga.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 66 years, Faustino Martinez, Sr.; son, Faustino Martinez, Jr., Jose Alejandro (Maria G.) Martinez, Reynaldo (Sylvia Ann) Martinez, Lisandro (Olga) Martinez; daughters, Maria Concepcion Elizondo, Deanna (Mario) Rodriguez, Margarita (Rogelio) Rodriguez; brothers, Clemente (Arminda) Garza, Jose Adolfo Garza; sisters, Maria Lourdes Zuniga and Maria Guadalupe (Leonard) Hardin; sister-in-law, Evangelina Garza, 23- Grandchildren, 24- Great-Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Viola lived in Edinburg for the past 35 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked as a custodian at Sam Houston Elementary for 10 years, then at Edinburg Citrus Association for 8 years. She also worked at Donna Fruit Company for 10 years, and then as a custodian at UTPA for 10 years until her retirement in 1994. She loved flowers and had a passion for gardening. She also enjoyed spending her time sewing, as well as dancing. She loved to listen to Mariachi music. She will truly be missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.

The Martinez family will receive friends on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Noe Elizondo, Jr., Joshua Rodriguez, Marco Martinez, Joel Martinez, Rogelio Rodriguez, and Lisandro Martinez, Jr. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
