Sylvia Garcia, 89, entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas. She was born in Alto Bonito, Texas on a Tuesday, October 27, 1936 to Margarito Garcia and Julia Lopez Garcia. She is preceded by her parents, brothers; Jose Eli Garcia, Homero (Maria Edna) Garcia and Miguel Garcia, and sister; Nllda Scrivner.
Sylvia is survived by her son; Ricardo Garcia, brothers; Pedro (Maria Luisa) Garcia, Sr. and Jorge (Paula) Garcia, sister in law; Maria Antonia Garcia, grandchildren; Alexander Garcia, Rafael Garcia, Olivia Garcia, Lobo Garcia and Sahara Garcia, nieces and nephews; Maricela Garcia, Belinda (Joel) Castro, Raul Garcia, Pete Garcia, Jr., Scott Scrivner, Corina Llanos, Omar Angel Garcia, Rolando Garcia, Greg Scrivner, Juan Manuel Garcia, Jacob Garcia and Michael Anthony Garcia, as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews. Her extended family; Rafael “Felo” (Maxine) Guerra, Carlos X (Sister Guerra) Guerra, Carmen Elvia (Luis) Yzaguirre, Jerry (Ann) Guerra, Hector Guerra, Javier Lopez and Joel Lopez.
Sylvia worked for the San Isidro ISD for over 30 years as well as working for the Guerra Family for many years. She enjoyed playing lottery scratch offs, playing bingo and sewing. She was best known for her baking skills especially when making pan de polvo. But her favorite pastime was spending time with her family an friends. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
The Garcia Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street, Edinburg, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 10:30 AM at San Isidore Catholic Church, 5160 FM 1017, San Isidro, Texas. Christian burial will follow at La Reforma Cemetery in La Reforma, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Rolando Garcia, Juan Manuel Garcia, Omar Angel Garcia, Jacob Garcia, Alexander Garcia, Michael Anthony Garcia, Greg Scrivner and Scott Scrivner. Honorary pallbearers will be: Pete Garcia, Jr., Raul Garcia and Joel Castro. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
