Sofia Mata Soto, 91, entered eternal rest on Friday, April 1, 2016 at her residence in Edinburg. She was born on Saturday, January 31, 1925 in Yorktown, Texas to Genaro Salinas and Aurora Vera Salinas. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 40 years; Hipolito Soto, son; Ernesto (Yolanda) Mata, daughters; Estella Mata and Elva Garza, grandchildren; Elizabeth (Frank) Cherry, Evonne Lorrie (Jubal) Garcia, Julie Marie (Edward) Calderon and Robert Ernest (Vanessa) Calles, great grandchildren; Alyssa Renee (Zack) Cherry, Jonathan Daniel (Cassandra) Cherry, Eric Matthew Ozuna, Cassandra Marie Garza, Adrian Javier Garza, Jaclynne Taylor Ozuna, Desiree N. Calles, Jacob Nicholas Peralez and Vida Marie Calles, great great grandchildren; Jaybree L. Pearson, Raylee Janelle Pearson, Brylee Danielle Pearson and Hazel Grace Cherry, sisters; Rebecca Caudillo, Lydia Armijo and Sara Ortiz, numerous nieces and nephews.
Sofia enjoyed gardening, sew and dancing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She touched many lives and will never be forgotten. Her family will continue to cherish her memories and legacy. The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Marta Mendoza for all the attention and care she gave Sofia for so many years. Sofia will truly be missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends today, Sunday, April 3,2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Frank Cherry, Robert Ernest Calles, Jonathan Daniel Cherry, Eric Matthews Ozuna, Adrian Javier Garza and Jacob Nicholas Peralez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
