Santos Vasquez

Santos Vasquez, Sr., 94, entered eternal rest at his daughter’s residence in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was born on a Saturday, October 25, 1930 to Narciso Vasquez and Maria Jesus Castro Vasquez in El Rancho del Puerto, Michoacan, Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Maria Martinez Vasquez and son; Narciso Vasquez, 1 granddaughter; Virginia Moore and 1 grandson; Jose Rene Guerra, Jr.

Santos is survived by his loving children; Santos (Dora) Vasquez, Jr., Rosalinda (Gustavo) Rios, Maria Isabel Garcia, Sylvia (Cruz) Robledo, Ricardo (Diana) Vasquez, Ana F. Reppond, Eva (Daniel) Elizondo, Sandra Vasquez and Ruben (Melynda) Vasquez, 28 – grandchildren, 53 – great grandchildren and 2 – great great grandchild.

Santos and his wife; Maria owned Vasquez Grocery in Edinburg, Texas for 43 years. During that time, the community became customers, customers became friends and friends became family. Although the building was eventually remodeled, it was always known as “La Tiendita Vasquez” where everyone was welcomed and received with a smile.

He enjoyed drinking coffee, walking and exercising and having great conversations. He was a hard worker who instilled good morals and values in his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, customers and all those whose lives he touched.

The Vasquez family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Christian service to be held at 6:30 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Daniel Elizondo, Jr., Andrew Vasquez, Ruben Vasquez, Jr., Omar Guerra, Ricardo Vasquez, Jr. and Cruz Robledo, Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be: Santos Vasquez, III. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
