Santos Salinas, 77, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center in Edinburg. He was born on a Thursday, January 31, 1946 in Faysville, Texas to Benito Salinas, Sr. and Luz Villarreal Salinas. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Alicia (Arnoldo) Garcia, Olivia Salinas, Beatriz (Enrique) Salinas, Benito Salinas, Jr. and Amelia Flores.
Santos is survived by his loving wife of 51 years; Edna R. Salinas, sons; Jaime Javier (Yarely) Salinas and Victor Javier (Maria) Salinas, brother; Roberto (Rita) Salinas, grandchildren; Aissa Silva, Alexis Salinas, Anahi Salinas, Vanisha Salinas, Jacob Salinas, Joseph Salinas, Monique Salinas, Daniel Salinas and Natalie Salinas, 4 great – grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was known to be a respectful and passive man, with a passion for tinkering with any kind of electronics, small engines and a mechanic, he was known to many as a jack of all traits. As a young man of 22 years old, Santos proudly served in the United States Army. During the Vietnam war, he would serve as an Infantryman becoming an expert Marksman and would return home with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the National Defense Service Medal. Santos was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was the caretaker for his wife, Edna for several years. He will deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The Salinas family will receive friends and family on Thursday, December 21, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn in Edinburg, Texas. Christian service will held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 9:30 in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home. Burial with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. post #7473 of Elsa, Texas will follow to the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 Inspiration Road, Mission, Texas. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
