Roberto P. "El Cuate" Cantu

July 10, 1924 — March 4, 2014

Roberto P. “El Cuate” Cantu, 89, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his residence in Edinburg. He was born July 10, 1924 to Timoteo Cantu and Santos Perez Cantu in Kingsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Roberto Cantu; brothers, Manuel Cantu, Baldemar Cantu, and Erasmo Cantu.

He is survived by his sons, Homer (Sally) Cantu, Erasmo Cantu; daughters, Maria Belma Pedraza, Maria Olinda (Jeff) Finley, Beatriz (Marc) Lowery, Cynthia (Paul) Keck, Annette (Christy) Cantu, Minerva (Jerry) Anderson; brothers, Daniel Cantu, Arturo P. Alonzo; sisters, Cora Alonzo, Celia Herrera, Carmen Borgas; 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roberto lived most of his life in Edinburg and is an Army Veteran. He will truly be missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

Family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian mass will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Christian burial will follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are his daughters, Maria Belma Pedraza, Maria Olinda Finley, Beatiz Lowery, Cynthia Keck, Annette Cantu, and niece, Susana Cantu. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
