Robert Carey ‘Pawpaw’ Shivers, 73, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas. Robert was born on a Saturday, June 3, 1950 in Goodwater Alabama to Otis Junior Shivers and Rebecca Joy McCain Shivers. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 22 years; Carla Kay Shivers, daughters; Vicky (Kevin) Johnson, Tina (Pace) Littleton and Dusty (Richard) Vela, sons; Danny Williams and Ricky Williams, brothers; Herbert (Alisa) Shivers and Jimmy (Lisa) Shivers, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert lived in Edinburg for 22 years and he proudly served 9 years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in which he received a Purple Heart among other honored commendations. He worked as a radiographer in the Texas oilfield, an x-ray technician for Boeing. He also enjoyed bull riding and supporting the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) for 50 years. He was an avid Auburn University football fan, but most importantly he deeply loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Robert will be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The Shivers Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM with a Celebration of Life to be held from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, Texas. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home and staff in Edinburg. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to:
