Ricardo “Richard” Jesus Guerra, 73, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at his residence in Edinburg, Texas. He was born on a Thursday, December 20, 1951 in Edinburg, Texas to Oscar Modesto Guerra, Sr. and Evangelina “Beva” de la Garza Guerra. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Oscar Modesto Guerra, Jr., brothers-in-law; Humberto Vela, Sr. and A. Hector Solis and granddaughter; Avaree Grace Perez.
He is survived by his loving children; Evangelina “Eva” (Judge Hector Bustos) Guerra-Bustos and Javier David (Maria C.) Guerra, siblings; Beatrice G. Vela and Nelda T. Guerra, sister in law; Norma M. Rodriguez, grandchildren; Bryana N. (Jose Carlos “Charlie”) Hernandez, Lauren Perez, Valerie Guerra, Justen Perez, Javier A. Guerra, Aaron D. Guerra, Christine Guerra and Anna V. Guerra. 1 great grandson; Joaquin Hernandez and mother of his children; Maria Lena Guerra as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was known to everyone as a very humble, respectful, faithful and kind man with a big heart. He grew up on San Felipe Ranch in Linn/San Manuel which instilled in him his love for Ranching and Farming. Richard had a love for music and enjoyed reading as well. However, Richard’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family, doting on grandchildren and great grandson. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he has touched.
The Guerra Family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street, Edinburg, Texas. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road, Edinburg, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as his pallbearers will be: Oscar Rene Vela, Hector Solis, Guillermo David Guerra, Derek David Sekula, Joel Llanos, Peter de La Garza, Humberto Vela, Jr. and Marcos Miguel Vela. Honorary pallbearers will be: Justen David Perez, Javier Alejandro Guzman and Aaron David Guerra. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg.
