Reymundo Reyna

March 15, 1930 — January 4, 2024

Reymundo “Ray” Reyna, 93, of Edinburg, Texas passed away peacefully at Edinburg Regional Medical Center on Thursday, January 4, 2024. His only child, daughter Dalia Reyna Guerra and son-in-law Andres Eliud Guerra were by his side.
Reymundo, fondly known as Ray, was born to Antonio and Andrea Gomez Reyna on a Saturday, March 15, 1930 in Edinburg, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army as a combat medic during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, Reymundo returned home to Edinburg, Texas and married the love of his life of 62 years, Librada G. Gutierrez. In 1954, as a newlywed, Reymundo was employed by Golden Jersey Creamery in Edinburg, Texas as a Night Distribution Inspector and worked for the company for 16 1/2 years. Always looking to provide a better life for his wife and daughter, in 1970 Reymundo left the creamery and took a position as a field crew laborer for Southern Pacific Railroad. He would become a Crew Foreman and ultimately a Track Inspector, a position he maintained until his retirement from Southern Pacific Railroad in 1992 after 22 years of service. Reymundo and his wife Librada spent his post retirement years going on dancing dates with a group of friends that was more like their extended family. They enjoyed attending weddings, quinceañeras, anniversary parties, etc. and spent many weekends at the Monte Carlo Ballroom in Edinburg, Texas listening and dancing to the music of many local bands. Reymundo ultimately lost his wife and partner in life on August 28, 2016.
Reymundo loved sports and enjoyed playing football as a teenager; however, bowling was his true passion. Reymundo was an avid bowling enthusiast most of his adult life. He spent many years competing in local and state wide bowling tournaments with his favorite story always being “Let me tell you about the time I bowled a 279 at Grapefruit Bowl during a tournament and everyone stopped to watch. I was so glad I did well!” He also enjoyed playing billiards after Men’s Singles Bowling League on Tuesday nights at Park Bowl in Edinburg, Texas. Reymundo was also a committed and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, anytime the ‘Boys were playing, Reymundo was front row and center in front of his TV, being the best couch coach ever.
Reymundo was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years; Librada G. Reyna, parents; Antonio and Andrea Gomez Reyna, brothers; Hipolito Reyna and Antonio Reyna (both of Illinois) and sister; Lydia Reyna Bennett (of Florida). He is survived by his daughter; daughter Dalia Reyna Guerra (Andres Eliud), his only granddaughter; Davina Renee Guerra and his great-grandchildren; Zoë Alyxandria Turnquest, Zander Reign Turnquest and Zion Trinity Faith Turnquest. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Belia Reyna Gonzalez and her family that reside in Israel.
Reymundo was a hardworking, kind, friendly and generous man who made friends anywhere he went. It was often said in family gatherings that you could send Reymundo to the grocery store with a list and when he returned home, he may have forgotten items on the grocery list but had set up a meeting time to bowl or play pool with someone he had met at the store. That was who Reymundo was and he will be greatly missed by his family, his extended family of nieces, nephews, godchildren and anyone who was privileged to know him.
Reymundo’s family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Peace at the Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, TX.
