Nicolas “Nick” Cancino, Sr., 67, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at University Hospital in San Antonio. He was born September 10, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Pedro Cancino and Candida Ramirez Cancino, but lived in Edinburg for most of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Olegario (Maria) Bustamante, Antonio (Guadalupe) Bustamante, Alejandro (Guadalupe) Bustamante, Albino (Tomasa) Cancino, and Frank (Irene) Cancino, sisters; Petra Cruz and Maria Cancino, father-in-law; Trinidad Garza, Sr. and mother-in-law; Maria E. Garza.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 49 years; Guadalupe Cancino, son; Nicolas (Laura) Cancino, Jr., daughters; Candida (Carlos) Cano, Irene (Reynaldo, Jr.) Rodriguez, and Irma (Jaime) Garza, brother; Jose (Cuca) Bustamante, sister; Natalia Bustamante, grandchildren; Jennifer Lee Cano, Stephanie Renee Cano, Reynaldo Rodriguez, III, Cynthia Marisa Garza, Jessica Danielle Garza, Isabella Nichole Rodriguez, Daniel Nicolas Garza and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cancino was a hard worker. He and his wife owned and operated Nick’s Muffler Shop for over 30 years and South Texas Lawnmower for 17 years. He loved to collect antique cars. He taught himself to play the accordion, guitar, piano and loved music. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was very proud of all their accomplishments. He loved life and lived life to the fullest. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. Special “Thank You” to the all of the staff at University Transplant Hospital in San Antonio for all their hard work and dedication, Dr. Deborah Levine, Luis Angel, Martha, Tamara, Trisha, and Debbie Cotter. The Cancino family would also like to thank all their family and friends for all of their prayers and support through this difficult time.
The Cancino family will receive friends, September 23, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian mass will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg, Texas. Having the honor to serve as pallbearers are Carlos Cano, Reynaldo Rodriguez, Jr., Jaime D. Garza, Rudy Bustamante, Juan Luis Orozco and Jesus Almaraz, honorary pallbearers are Reynaldo Rodriguez, III, and Daniel Garza.
