Maria Ines Vela, 81, entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at LifeCare Hospital-South in McAllen. She was born on March 26, 1933 in Mercedes, Texas to Inocencia Capetillo. She is preceded in death by her parent and daughter, Ruth Vela.
Mrs. Vela is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jose B. Vela; children, Roberto (Ida) Vela, Gustavo (Albesa) Vela, Mary Lou (Dick) Vela-Clark, J.J. (Maryann) Vela, and Fernando (Judy) Vela; brother, Guadalupe Alvarado; sisters, Katy Alvarado, Maria Mireles, Maria Rivas, Ramona Garza and Odilia Trevino; sisters-in-law, Natividad Navarro and Beatrice Cuellar; grandchildren, Ruth Ann Pena, Veronica Vela, Gus Vela, Jr., Victoria Bazan, Karisa Vela, Ruby Clark, Karina Vela and Israel Vela; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Karr and Penny Pena; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vela lived in Edinburg most of her life where she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a Guadalupana and a Eucharist minister. She loved to make ceramics, do crocheting and cook for her family. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. The Vela Family would like to give a special “Thank You” to her caregivers, Lupita Chavez and Juanita Olivares for all their care and attention given.
The Vela family will receive friends today, December 30, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to El Cibolo Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be, Roberto Vela, Gustavo Vela, J.J. Vela, Fernando Vela, Dick Clark, Gus Vela, Jr. and Honorary pallbearer will be Israel Vela. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
