Maria Mercedes Garza, 80, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. She was born September 24, 1931 in San Rafael De Los Martinez, N.L., Mexico to Ignacio Reyna and Cleofas Beltran Reyna.
Mercedes is preceded in death by her parents, son; Rene Arnoldo Garza, and brother; Fidencio Guzman.
She is survived by her sons; Samuel (Dalia) Garza, Andy (Ellie) Garza, Hector Daniel Garza, Ricardo (Corina) Garza, and Marc J. (Julie) Garza, daughters; Rosa Linda (Adolfo) Cantu and Gilda (Miguel) Gonzalez, brothers; Adolfo Reyna and Joe D. Reyna, sisters; Frances Falcon and Paulita Sandoval, grandchildren; Isaac (Gloria) Cantu, Michael (Laura) Cantu, Nicholas Garza, Arturo (Lillie) Gonzalez, Laura (Ruben) Gonzalez, Eric Garza, Andrew Garza, Olivia Garza, Nathan Garza, Gianni Garza, Audrey Garza, Mary Helen Garza, Kristen Garza and John Marc Garza, great-grandchildren; Seth Cantu, Caleb Cantu, Erin Gonzalez, Nicholas Gonzalez, Kiani Garza and Ruben Gonzalez.
Mercedes operated a day care at her home for over 20 years. She was a very generous and giving person with strong Christian faith. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing Loteria, but her greatest love of all was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all those who knew her and whose lives she touched.
The Garza family will receive friends today, Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home and from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian mass will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.
Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor of serving as pallbearers are Isaac Cantu, Jon Michael Cantu, Arturo Gonzalez, Eric Garza, Nathan Garza, Andrew Garza and Bob Falcon, Nicholas Garza and John Marc Garza. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
