Dolia Gonzalez, 94, entered eternal rest on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center in Edinburg. She was born in Edinburg, Texas on a Sunday, August 18, 1929 to Luz Gonzalez and Herminia Ayala Gonzalez. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Alfredo “Freddy” Cantu Gonzalez, sister; Maria Elena Acosta, brothers; Santos Gonzalez and Felipe Gonzalez.

Dolia is survived by her sister, Aurora Gonzalez, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dolia worked at HEB for 15 years and worked at the ECHO Hotel for 35 years. She was a very caring person, caregiver to many and known as the “Mother” of the United States Marines. She volunteered for many years at the Freddy Gonzalez Elementary School and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Dolia was well known to everyone and was an iconic public figure not just in the City of Edinburg, but the entire country. She loved her community as well as her family and friends. Her cooking and making tortillas were her way of making every one of those that she loved feel special. Her love for her son Freddy was incomparable. He was her source of inspiration and motivation in life. She has now been reunited with her son after grieving him for over 56 years. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, community and all those whose lives she touched.

The Gonzalez Family will receive friends on Monday, August 19, 2024, for a viewing from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas. Viewing will continue from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be; Eric Saenz, Tony Martinez, Terrance Bishop, Rollie Davila, Frank Acosta and Matthew Morin. Honorary pallbearers will be; Robbie Acosta, Elivorio C. Luna, Andy Acosta and Jay Acosta. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Funeral Director/Manager and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
