Leonila Ruiz, 97, entered eternal rest on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Windsor Arbor View in Edinburg, Texas. She was born on a Sunday, January 17, 1926 in Edinburg, Texas to Prudencio Castilleja and Eutiquia Sanchez Castilleja.. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Juan Ruiz and daughter; Anna Ruiz Cantu.
Leonila is survived by her daughter Maria del Carmen (John) Flores, grandsons; Alexander Trey Cantu and Juan Ezequil Flores as well as numerous cousins.
Leonila was very active and faithful at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg becoming a pioner in bringing the Guadalupana Society and Choir to Holy Family Catholic Church. She loved to brighten up someone’s day and volunteered at Edinburg General Hospital and Retama Manor both in Edinburg. She loved gardening and her plants but most especially loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. It brings comfort to know she is now reunited with her beloved husband and daughter once again.
The Ruiz family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 for a viewing from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be recited by the Guadalupanas at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, Texas. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1302 East Champion in Edinburg with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia Funeral Director/Manager and staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
