Our loving mother, Julia Diaz Balderas, 104, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Hidalgo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Laguna Seca Ranch on a Tuesday, November 1, 1921 and was raised in Faysville, Texas. Years later, she married the love of her life, Abel Balderas, and together they moved to San Manuel, Texas, where they lovingly raised their five children.
Julia found great joy in the outdoors, tending to her plants and animals, and spending cherished time with her family and grandchildren. She was also a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing quilts.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Abel Balderas; her parents, Urbano Diaz and Beatrice Mendiola Diaz; and 13 siblings.
She is survived by her children: Fernando (Antonia) Balderas; Jesus (Myrna) Balderas; Eloy (Juanita) Balderas of Linn–San Manuel, Texas; Jose Luis (Olga) Balderas; and Elva (Pedro) Cruz of Edinburg, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Anna (Andre) Garabedian, Melissa (Domingo) Sifuentes, Dina (Michael) Ramos, Christy (Norma) Balderas, Dr. Michael (Ruby) Balderas, Jeana (Andres) Acosta, Jesus (Abigail) Balderas Jr., Raymundo (Arelie) Balderas, Pedro Balderas, Eloy Iván Balderas, Jose Severino Balderas, and Jimmy Balderas; as well as her great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Aden Garabedian; Noah and Noelle Sifuentes; Loren, Evan, and Aaron Ramos; Madison, Michael Jr., Riley, Noah, Katelynn Balderas and Lori Acosta.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 5:00–9:00 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 36856 North Expressway 281 in San Manuel, Texas. Interment will follow at Chapa Cemetery.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dr. Michael Balderas, Jesus Balderas Jr., Raymundo Balderas, Pedro Balderas, Eloy Iván Balderas, Jose Severino Balderas, and Jimmy Balderas.
The family extends special thanks to her nieces and nephews, as well as family and friends who have traveled to be present. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hidalgo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edinburg, Greater Valley Hospice, Dr. Navarro, Dr. Cooper Dockery, Lorena Medina, NP, Dr. Carlos D. Grialdo, and Dr. Ivan Melendez, Dr. Jose Perales III, Ana Cervantes, and Carmen Puga for their compassionate care and support over the years.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, a life well lived, and hearts forever touched. May she rest in peace, and may her memory live on in all who loved her. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and Staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
