Jose “Choche” Luis Mercado, 61, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at his residence in Edinburg, TX. He was born on August 20, 1954 to Francisco Ruiz and Bertha Guadalupe Mercado in Edinburg, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Francisco Hernandez and sister-in-law, Celia S. Avila.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susana S. Mercado; son, Jose Javier (Karen Denise) Mercado; daughters, Marivel (Justin) Galindo and Minette (Michael) Bridges; brothers, Armando Jesus (Sara) Mercado, Gilberto (Rosalinda) Ruiz, Juan Francisco (Irma) Ruiz and Martin Ruiz; sisters, Celsa (Domingo, Jr.) Pena, Eva Alicia (Aurelio) Trevino, Sonia Hernandez, Margarita (Esteban) Puente and Graciela (Zeferino) Vega; father-in law, Donato C. Salinas and mother-in-law, Francisca Salinas; brother-in-Laws, Jorge Avila and Donato (Edith) Salinas, Jr.; sister-in-laws, Sylvia Salinas, Yolanda Granados and Inez Salinas; grandchildren, Jacob Connor Mercado, Bryan Andrew Galindo, Kara Lynn Bridges, Kailyn Sue Bridges, Marcos Daniel Galindo, Kaleb Parker Mercado, Justin Cristian Galindo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Choche, as he was affectionately known, lived in Edinburg all of his life and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is a 1974 graduate of Edinburg High School. He was a manager at Risica and Sons throughout the 1980’s and later worked as a foreman at Tri-City Steal through the 1990’s. He worked at Mi Pueblito Adult Day Care as a driver until his retirement in 2010. Choche’s hobbies included fishing, woodwork which included framing and cabinets, as well as mechanical work. He will be remembered for his love for telling jokes and his overall great sense of humor. He will truly be missed by his friends, family, and all those whose lives he touched.
Family will receive friends today, October 16, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 E. Kuhn in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 E. Kuhn in Edinburg. Catholic Burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Jose Javier Mercado, Rolando Rodriguez, Benjamin Salas, Jr., Alejandro Mercado, Antonio Trevino, and Marco Antonio Pena. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Omar Castro, Benito Gonzalez, Adrian Salas, and Domino Pena, III. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
