Jose Luis Cuellar

February 15, 1948 — March 21, 2015

Jose Luis Cuellar, 67, passed away quietly surrounded by his loving family and friends at his side on March 21, 2015.  Mr. Cuellar was born in Linn, Texas on February 15, 1948 to Clemente and Josefina Cuellar.  He attended Edinburg High School and Pan American University.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War assigned to Battery A, 1st Battalion, 18th Artillery, 4th U.S. Army, Americal Division. After his military service he joined the U.S. Postal Service in Houston, Texas.  He retired after 35 years as a letter carrier.

He is preceded in death by his brother Ernesto Cuellar (2002).  Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Theda Gayle Cuellar; parents, Clemente and Josefina Cuellar; 2 brothers, Marcelino Cuellar and Robert Cuellar; 3 sisters, Annie Farmer, Mimi Morales and Josie Schmidt.
Also surviving Mr. Cuellar are 5 nieces, Veronica, Diana, Jessica, Elisa and Erika; 4 nephews, Bobby, Romeo, Javier, and Kris.  Foreign Exchange Student Edu, grandnephews and grandnieces he dearly loved and enjoyed.

The Cuellar family will receive family and friends on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 pm at Ceballos – Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas.  A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.  at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas.  Interment with Military Honors will follow to the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road in Mission, Texas.

Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be, Ray Ramirez, Alfonso Garza, Roland Hernandez, Marcelino Cuellar, Robert Cuellar and Javier Morales; honorary pallbearers will be, Veronica Salazar, Diana Cuellar and Erika Cuellar. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
