Jose Rogelio Cantu

June 15, 1930 — November 12, 2010

Jose Rogelio Cantu, 80, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center.  He was born on June 15, 1930 in Donna, Texas to Carlos Cantu and Nellie Handy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; Ofelia Lopez Cantu, son; Eddie (Mary) Cantu, Sr., daughter; Elvia Navarro, grandchildren; Michael Navarro, Samantha Navarro, Jason Navarro, Eddie Cantu, Jr., and Erika Cantu, 1 brother, 3 sisters,  2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cantu served in the US Army during the Korean War.  In addition, he also worked for Foremost Paving for 28 years.  Mr. Cantu enjoyed being a handyman around his home. His greatest love was spending time with his family.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

The Cantu family will receive friends today, Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.  Christian mass will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg.  Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.  Military services are under the auspices of VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.  Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
