James Gordon “Trooper” Sigler, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family at DHR Hospice in Edinburg. Texas on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 8:45 AM. He lost his long fought battle to cancer. James was born on a Sunday, December 24, 1944 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his father; John Henry Sigler and mother; Vernell Sigler. He is survived by two sisters; Dolores Hanks and Brenda Eisenberg.
James’ parents moved to Lake Charles, LA when he was a young child. He graduated from La Grange High School in Lake Charles and attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1963 – 1967. He served a tour in Thailand from 1965 – 1966. James was a police officer in Lake Charles, business owner to a BBQ catering business in Lake Charles, owner of apartment rental units in Edinburg and co-owner of the old West Diamondback Saloon in Edinburg. James also did long haul transport until he retired in 2019.
In 1981, he married his beloved wife of 44 years; Noemi Ponce Sigler. Their children are; Michael John-Paul Wilson, Gary Joseph Bergeron and Dawn Sigler Church. He was a true southern gentleman. He always had a smile and a handshake to all those he met. He loved the Rio Grande Valley’s culture, food and the people. The Siglers made Edinburg their hometown since 1986.
James’ stepsons; Michael and Gary were his support team during his battle with cancer. They put their lives on hold to be available for whatever was needed for their beloved stepdad. James’ daughter in law, Army Sgt. Major Cristina Wilson, took leave from her base in San Antonio to be at his bedside. Also taking Army leave and traveling from their respective bases to be at their grandfather’s bedside were Staff Sgt. Michelle Wilson Roche that flew in from Germany as well her husband; John Roche who drove in from Colorado, both are Army medics. James left this earth surrounded by alot of love.
James was a private person who loved to live a simple life. He requested to be cremated and to have a small immediate family service. In lieu of flowers, James requested that people who want to honor his memory, for them to offer a smile and a handshake to others. That in doing these acts of kindness, his memory will continue to live on. The family would like to thank each and every one that offered words of comfort and prayers. Their hearts were touched and comforted.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Funeral Director / Manager at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
