Jacinto “Grandpa Cow” Hinojosa, 92, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 08, 2010 at the Comfort House in McAllen, Texas.  He was born on August 16, 1917 in Santa Monica Ranch, Texas to Margarito Hinojosa Sr. and Liberata Longoria.

Jacinto is survived by his daughters; Zulema O. (Johnny) Garcia, Iris (Edgardo) Ramirez, and Irma (Cesar) Lozano, sisters; Cruz Hinojosa, Olivia Hinojosa, and Angelita Champion, sister-in-laws; Berta Z. Hinojosa, Criselda V. Hinojosa, and Hortencia R. Hinojosa, nine grandchildren, and niece; Anna M. Champion, nephews; Nick Hinojosa Jr., Frank Champion Jr., Eddie Champion, and David Champion.

Jacinto is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Margarito Hinojosa Jr., Gumaro Hinojosa, Nicasio Hinojosa, and Alvaro Hinojosa, sisters; Sofia Hinojosa and Maria V. Hinojosa, and brother-in-law; Frank Champion.

Jacinto was a lifelong resident of Puerto Rico/La Reforma area.  The Hinojosa Family has lived at Santa Monica Ranch for over 100 years, where he spent most of his life ranching and farming. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1938. He worked for the U.S.D.A. and Hidalgo County Appraisal District until his retirement in August 31, 1988.  He loved ranching, farming, hunting, discussing history, and storytelling. He loved to cook outside and make pan de campo. He loved spending his last years with his daughters and grandchildren. He will truly be missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.

The family will be receiving friends today, March 10, 2010 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian mass will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hinojosa Cemetery in Santa Monica Ranch, Texas.  Having the honor of serving as pallbearers will be Juan O. Santos, Tito Flores, Nick Hinojosa Jr., Ross Beltran, Noie Hesbrook III, and Cesar Lozano.Funeral services have been entrusted to his son-in-law; Johnny Garcia, Manager of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
