Herminia “Mama Mine” Gomez, 96, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. She was born May 23, 1918 in Yorktown, Texas to Bernardino Garza and Timotea Loredo Garza. She is preceded in death by her husband, Federico Gomez, Sr., parents, and all her brothers.
She is survived by her loving children, Maria Isabel (Gumaro) Luna, Ramiro Garza, Gloria Ramirez, Anita (Jesus, Sr.) Renteria, Teresa Ramirez, Federico (Norma Linda) Gomez, Jr., Enedina Martin, Jose Oscar (Beatrice) Gomez, Mary (Joel) Sanchez; 39- Grandchildren; 68-Great-Grandchildren; 11- Great-Great Grandchildren.
Herminia lived all her life in Edinburg. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. She was known for making the best tortillas. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to me” with tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands were put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!” Love, your family.
The family will receive friends Today, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian Mass will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian Burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
