With profound sadness, the family shares the celebration of life with his love to the sacred heart of Jesus of; EFRAIN N. MARTINEZ, age 78, passing on peacefully in Edinburg on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Efrain was born on Wednesday, August 1, 1945, in Brownsville to Nicomedes Nuñez Martinez and Angel C. Martinez. Efrain is preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Guadalupe Ramon “Wally” Martinez and Sergio Martinez.
Efrain is survived by his loving children; Yvonne (Margarito Carreon) Martinez, Efrain Eduardo (Melissa) Martinez, Elizabeth Celeste (Paul Mendez) Martinez, Yvette Marie (Erick Galvan) Martinez, Efrem B. (Theresa) McKnight and Irma (Alonso) Marroquin, grandchildren; Gabriella P. Hinojosa, Karina I. Hinojosa, Sierra A. Mendez, Arianna M. Jara, Emma Martinez, Joaquin M. Jara, Jacob Mendez, and Dylan Martinez; siblings; Angel (Thelma) Martinez, Jr. and Alicia M. (Lauro, Jr.) Guerrero.
Efrain graduated from Brownsville High School and received his Bachelor’s of Science from Pan American University. His entrepreneurial spirit began as a teenager selling fencing with his father and continued with his work in real estate and later as an OSHA Certified Trainer.
He loved his children and would help them whenever needed. He took immense pride in the educational pursuits and personal accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, always sharing his great adoration for his family with his friends and colleagues.
As a young man he developed a true passion for politics, which was constant throughout his life. In addition to his many community service efforts, he also served with honor in the Texas Army National Guard. He was a man of strong faith and dedicated many years serving as a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. May the Lord welcome him into his arms and may his family bask in his love and protection from the bounty of Heaven.
The Martinez family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas.
Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Palm Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4607 North Sugar Road in Pharr, Texas.
Having distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be; Paul Mendez, Erick Galvan, Joaquin Jara, Jacob Mendez, Margarito Carreon, Gabriella P. Hinojosa, and Karina I. Hinojosa. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
