Bernardo “Bene” Salazar, Jr, 82, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in Edinburg. He was born on a Monday, August 2, 1940 in Raymondville, Texas to Bernardo Salazar, Sr. and Celia Posas Salazar. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Estela Garza and Aurora Rodriguez, brothers; Casimiro Salazar and Ruben Salazar, sister in law; Faustina Salazar and brother in laws; Marcos Garza and Benito Cano.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Celia R. Salazar, children; Bernardo “Buddy” (Rebecca) Salazar, III, Juan Jose (Martha) Salazar, Rene (Yvonne) Salazar and Roel Salazar, sister; Damiana “Nena” Cano, brother; Jose Guadalupe “Lupe” (Irma) Salazar, brother in law; Onesimo Rodriguez, 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernardo or “Bene” as he was affectionately known lived in Edinburg most of his life. Bene was known for being a hardworking man, working for South Texas Concrete 25 years, Magic Valley for 3 years as well as being self employed. His love for horse and music was well known, playing the accordion and guitar, he was a member of Grupo Los Hermanos Salazar, which he formed with his brothers. He lived life to the fullest, always happy and smiling but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Chapel of Peace, Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street, Edinburg, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street, Edinburg, Texas with the burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road, Edinburg, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers: Victor Manuel Salazar, Rene Salazar, Jr, Nicholas Bernardo Salazar, Mark Anthony Anzaldua, Ivan Gomez and Lupe “Lupito” Salazar. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and Staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
