Benito Rivas

Benito Rivas, Sr., 86, entered eternal rest on February 9, 2010 in Orosi, California with his wife and family by his bedside.  He was born in San Miguel, Mexico, on March 21, 1923 to Amado Rivas and Antonia Flores.

Mr. Rivas is preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Aniceto, Juan and Amado Rivas.

Mr. Rivas is survived by his wife; Lucila Elodia Rivas, sons; Esturberto (Rosie) Rivas, Louis Amaro (Gloria) Rivas, Benito (Elisa) Rivas, Jr., Reynaldo (Laura) Rivas, Jesus (Ann) Rivas, daughters; San Juanita (Mario) Ramos, Estella (Ramiro) Villagomez, Elva (Horacio) Cavazos, Maria Guadalupe (Adalberto) Quintero, Maria Aurora (Raul) Villagomez, sister; Maria Guadalupe Rivas, 32- Grandchildren, 54- Great Grandchildren, 1- Great-Great Grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Benito owned a ranch in San Miguel, Mexico named Rancho Cucharas.  In his ranch, with the help of his children, they raised cows, goats and other animals

In 1963 he brought his family to Edinburg and in April of 1967 he moved to the Cutler-Orosi, California area where he worked as a contractor and foreman in the fields.  He retired at the age of 67.

His family will always remember Benito as a strong man who always had something funny to say.  He loved his birds and dogs.  He would always say his dogs were his e extended family.  Benito also loved to tell stories from his childhood; he spoke of his parents, brothers, sisters, youth and his ranch.

Benito adored his children and wife.  We may feel like we’ve lost Benito, but in reality he will always be with us.  He lives in the sun, the wind, the stars, but most importantly in our hearts.  He lived a life that left us with so much advice, stories, jokes and memories that we will never forget.  He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lived he touched.

Benito, thank you for making our family possible and we will see you soon at heavens gates.

The Rivas family will receive friends today, February 18, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.  Christian mass will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.  Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
